About our church:

First Baptist Church was founded in 1869 and has been affiliated with the American Baptist Churches since the beginning.

For over 130 years First Baptist has ministered to the community of Plainfield and many of today's families can trace their roots back to the early church fathers and mothers.

The current structure, while undergoing many additions, updates and remodeling is still at heart the original structure built in the late 1800's.  The most recent renovations were; the addition of a handicap accessible restroom and a fellowship hall renovation that included new lighting and basement windows.

While continuing to minister to the local community First Baptist Church also remains committed to spreading the gospel throughout the world through it's continued dedication and commitment to world missions both, through the American Baptist USA convention and through other opportunities.

A Note from Pastor Shawn:

As Christians it is important for us to stand up for what we believe in.  As a Christian I believe that the Manhattan Declaration sums up succinctly my beliefs on abortion, marriage and religious liberties.  As such I have added my signature to the document.  I encourage you to follow the link below and to look at the document and prayerfully consider what it states about these timely issues.
